Artist Interview: Young & Free featured artist Vexta

What is better than being young and free? According to the Aussies, also having a can of spray paint in hand. Behold: the most noteworthy exhibition of Australian street art and artists to hit the United States. The Geary Gallery in San Francisco will be hosting this fine show featuring an nice array of stencils, paste-ups, and direct sprays that have all come to color the land down under. 

Mark your calendar for the opening of YOUNG & FREE on September 10 from 6-9 pm at 941 Geary to catch the works by Anthony Lister, Kid Zoom, Dabs & Myla, Dmote, New2, Ben Frost, Meggs, Rone, Sofles, and Vexta. Show ends October 22.

I just came across the work of the talented Melbourne native street artist REKA (James Reka) who’s graphic and fun work can be seen throughout Melbourne in alleyways, museums and train yards. 

REKA will be showing in San Francisco @941 Geary Opening September 10 for the Young & Free: Australian Contemporary Street Artists show. \

Adiós LA

Clever billboards by designer Jon Jackson, as he decided to leave LA for NY. Jon strategically placed five 10’x23’ billboards around his neighborhood in Los Angeles. The project took 3 weeks for completion and he even launched a site and a Facebook group detailing the location of each billboard.

This Chilean artist is a true original. Basco Vazko is influenced by his roots, but likes to tie in elements from anatomy, nature, and pop-art graphics. His street art can be seen in his hometown of Santiago, Chile, and in Los Angeles as he makes his name known on the West Coast.
