Adiós LA

Clever billboards by designer Jon Jackson, as he decided to leave LA for NY. Jon strategically placed five 10’x23’ billboards around his neighborhood in Los Angeles. The project took 3 weeks for completion and he even launched a site and a Facebook group detailing the location of each billboard.

Taking elements from his design background and pop iconography, Ryan McGinness creates kaleidoscope-like pieces of art. He grew up in the skate and surf culture of Virginia Beach, and now jet-sets between New York, LA and all over the world exhibiting his fixation with the value of form and its power to allow for self-expression. 19 year old LA photographer Julian Berman has been shooting street kids, skateboarders, and the members of Odd Future since he was in high school. 

Interview with artist Mike Shine

Inspired by the 1960s California surf and skate aesthetic, Mike Shine combines elements from folk craftsmanship and graphics into his mixed-media and multi-media pieces of art.  Shine is also drawn to the surreal-like and curious worlds of the American carnival, Nordic mythology, German Romanticism and existential periods, with which he invokes the transformation of the strange into the familiar.

Kottie Paloma at Munch Gallery

Blü Magazine was at Munch Gallery last week for the opening reception of their current artist Kottie Paloma. It was a pleasantly bizarre showcase of provocative drawings and paintings, signed cigarettes, and glossy books. Kottie Paloma portrays contemporary urban life in a very blunt and hilarious manner. His works have been exhibited internationally.
